Hello, everyone! My name is Alex, for those who don’t know me, and I’m so thankful to be part of this group. Since some of you may not be familiar with my story, I wanted to share a little bit of my testimony.
I grew up in the church and was surrounded by God my whole life, but it wasn’t until my sophomore and junior years of high school that I truly grasped what it meant to be a disciple of Jesus. Since then, the Lord has continually revealed to me just how sovereign and vast His love, plans, and ways are. Praise God for sanctification! Now let's go into the devotional :)For those attending Rocky Peak Church, today is our annual All Serve Day, where we go out into the community and serve in various ways. I thought it would be meaningful to take some time and dwell on the theme verse for this year:"Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth." — 1 John 3:18This verse reminds us that love isn’t just about what we say—it’s about what we do. We can’t simply talk about love or say all the right words and expect that to be enough. Genuine love is demonstrated through action. One of the most powerful ways we can reflect the light of Jesus is by serving others with a heart like His—expressing His love not just through speech, but through the way we live. The impact we have—whether at school, work, or in our daily interactions—is often greater than we realize. It’s only when we actively submit and surrender our whole selves to the Lord that we begin to see how He moves through us. When we invite the Lord to transform us as servants of His kingdom, He begins to reveal more of His mysterious ways, shaping us into people who can truly serve others through our actions.I want to challenge you today: How can you love the people around you through action? It could be as simple as taking extra care to complete a task the way someone else prefers, choosing integrity over shortcuts, and showing respect, kindness, and a positive attitude—whether toward a friend or a stranger. Pray with the Lord about this! While our words hold power, as Proverbs 18:21 reminds us—"The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit"—what often leaves the deepest impact is how people remember the way we acted and treated them. This isn’t to say that words don’t matter; there are plenty of moments when people have spoken life into us. But if you look back on your own life, chances are, the moments that stand out the most are the ones where someone’s actions spoke louder than their words. I know in my own life, the people I look up to aren’t necessarily those who speak really “fancy” and “perfect” words, but those who genuinely live out what they believe. Think about the times when a stranger noticed something different about you—maybe they were surprised by your kindness or wondered why you went the extra mile for someone. Those moments of living out love in action speak volumes. We build up the body of Christ when we surrender our own desires and choose to live the way God calls us to—not how the world tells us to. And yeah, sometimes His ways feel challenging, but they also bring real life. Loving people selflessly isn’t always easy, but when we do it through His strength, we realize just how much we need Him.So as you go out today, I want to encourage you to picture yourself yoked to Jesus—walking alongside Him as you serve. He says in Matthew 11:29-30: "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." We live in a world that can feel heavy and chaotic, but when we’re yoked to Jesus, our foundation is strong. The same God who serves and loves you is walking right beside you as you go out and love others today.I hope you all have an amazing day, and just remember—your Father sees you, loves you, and delights in the way you love others through action!
